Pinterest has long been the go-to platform for inspiration whether it’s fashion lifestyle or home decor. It is a hub of ideas. But in the recent years, it has shifted from being a place with unique ideas to a platform which makes people look and live alike, instead of encouraging originality.
Take home, for example, all of the features are filled with similar neutral to perfect coffee table, set up and a corner for full length arched mirror. Although it looks spectacular, aren’t we losing our individuality? It’s a Pinterest mood board alive with no personal touch or sentimental item that would make our house feel our own.
Neeru Rajora, 46, interior designer residing in Gurgaon says, “Pinterest should inspire not dictate- true style comes from mixing, not mimicking. Too often, I see people requesting trends without considering what truly resonates with them. Everyone wants structured sofa sets and solid beige walls. Fashion and interior should be personal.”
The same applies to fashion, everyone is wearing oversized blazers, New Balance sneakers, and gold chunky jewellery dominate the platform, massively that people are now afraid to try different colours. They no longer think about their personal style rather thing on how to fit into an existent trend.
Break free from traps-
1. Experiment with different styles. Don’t limit yourself to one aesthetic instead, mix and much ideas that describe you.
2. Look beyond the moon, when looking for inspirations, look for books, vintage magazines, even nature for inspiration.
3. Personalise everything start by rearranging your personal space with things that hold emotional value to you. Later follow this with your outfit.
